SALVOSA BJJ ASCENSION AT THE MMA EXPO’06
TEAM ASCENSION represented full-scale at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for last weekend’s 2006 Mixed Martial Arts Expo. Canada’s Martial Arts community at large owes a great deal to Gerald Chopik for working tirelessly to bring this event to us. It’s very rare to have an event of this magnitude—in Toronto, no less—to bring recognition to martial artists of all styles and backgrounds.
If we hope to have the opportunity to showcase our skills on a larger stage for the years to come, WE HAVE TO SUPPORT THESE EVENTS!
Professor Omar Salvosa taught two dynamic seminars on Saturday and Sunday, assisted by two great instructors in Dave King (Team Ascension/White Tiger BJJ) and Marcio Nunes (Team Ascension/Gracie Barra).
We were treated to an amazing evening of Muay Thai fights on Saturday night, WINNING BOTH OF OUR FIGHTS! Congratulations to our Muay Thai Instructor, Peter Arcalas, for overwhelming his opponent to a cleanly-executed first round KO victory. Congratulations also to our CAMTAO Lightweight Champion, Mohammed “Hoost” Awad for his dominating win in a 3-round decision over his opponent to win the MMA EXPO Flashpoint Lightweight Title.
Overall, it was a great weekend for martial arts in Canada, Salvosa BJJ and the emergence of Ascension Muay Thai. TEAM ASCENSION continues to move upward—congrats everyone!
